It's an electronic music takeover: LaserSquid Music is embracing National Youth Arts Week by throwing a major, all day dance party and showcasing a whole whack of local talent. It starts outside, with a very FREE show that includes Club Stoic, Coree Jamez, Grubby, MoneyoverBeaches, Mat Trouble and hopefully some sunshine. Once that wraps up things head indoors where headliners Dezza, P-80, JonBob, Dono & The Real Malloy, Acid Reflex and Dartmouthian crank out their latest and greatest mixes. "I think there are a lot of youth who feel disengaged with the community, and putting on events that they can appreciate can help give them a sense of belonging, and pride in their city," says Jonathan Bobryk AKA JonBob about getting involved in NYAW. "It also exposes youth to creative individuals who are doing really interesting work, and who they probably haven't heard of." Here's your best shot at getting well-acquainted with the ever-growing electronic scene.
Sun May 6, Alderney Landing, Dartmouth waterfront, free outdoor show 12-7pm, indoor show 9pm-2am, $11.50/$17, 888-311-9090, ticketpro.ca
