Food & Trembling

By Jonah Campbell (Invisible)

Jonah Campbell's Food & Trembling is a love song of food and language written by a lover of gravy and a hater of brunches. This collection of essays and rants reads like a collection of posts from a food blog, but a blog that I would read and refer people to without hesitation. If food writing today is becoming increasingly blog-like, then Campbell is leaving his self-focused compatriots in the dust. Unlike those who would write, "look what I ate, it tasted good and you didn't have any," Campbell evokes (and refers to) the great MFK Fisher, who saw food as a common experience, uncommon in its magnitude and importance.  Campbell understands this, and shares his love, his excitement and his sass with his readers---who are left hungry for the next chapter.
