Remarks: Good news for anyone worried about becoming a pedestrian pancake under a plummeting Pita Pit placard: Those missing bolts may look dangerous, but they don’t actually anchor the sign to the side of the building. “Those bolts were originally meant to keep the sign from swinging from side to side, but it didn’t work,” says Bob Thompson, speaking on behalf of Pita Pit. “So we put guide wires on either side of the sign and they hold it in place. So now, the bolts are just there. It’s neither a safety hazard nor are they supporting anything.” So it turns out the sign isn’t nearly as dangerous as it looks. But if you still want a cheap thrill, feel free to dodge under the sign a la Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. We won’t tell.
