Homeboys, First to Fall

Bridgewater's hardcore foursome channels their mature side with a new record.

First to Fall has come a long way since 2004. Then, the Bridgewater natives were junior-high-aged buddies shredding Misfits and Metallica covers, trying to figure out where they fit into the scene. Through exploring songwriting, they evolved to become an Alexisonfire-inspired post-hardcore band, solidifying their four-piece lineup and releasing two EPs. With the release of Home upon them, drummer Mike Smith says they've really grown up as a band in the last two years. "We just got much better at understanding songwriting and where we wanted to take it," he adds that while First to Fall is staying true to its hard-hitting roots, it's digging deeper into melody and harmony, too. "It still contains elements of hardcore music, but we were going for a more accessible sound so we could please fans of all genres." They've got a spring tour and a full-length record in the works, but right now Home is where the heart is. –AS
