RAIN DATE

The rain date for fireworks will be the Friday night following Canada Day. If weather is not conducive, the fireworks will be fired on Saturday. If the fireworks cannot be fired on Saturday night, the Committee has the discretion to cancel the fireworks entirely and bank the credit for the following year. If Canada Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday and the fireworks cannot be fired on the day, then the alternate dates will be the following Sunday or Monday.

HAVE PETS?

Nova Scotia SPCA reminds owners to avoid fireworks tragedy for your pet.  The day after the Canada Day weekend, almost every call to Nova Scotia SPCA offices begins with “Last night during the fireworks, my dog…” broke his leash, slipped his tether, ran through the screen door, crashed a window, dug under/ jumped over the fence; in short, fled – from the comforts of home and/or owner – in panic. It may seem strange, but more domestic animals are terrified by fireworks than any other single thing and they become willing to do anything to escape the noise. Even an animal that hasn’t reacted in previous years can become unexpectedly fearful, especially an aging pet.

Check the Nova Scotia SPCA website for details and preventative measures: www.spcans.ca
