The first family of Quahog, Rhode Island gets a straight-to-DVD special. We’re not talking South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut here, but more of an extended edition of the sporadically hilarious TV series that made some kind of history when it was brought back to the air due to the success of its DVD box sets. Stewie is the baby of the animated suburban clan, a demented psychopath keen on killing his mother and world domination, with a football-shaped head and a James Bond villain’s running monologue. Here he thinks he’s found his real father and goes on a road trip with the deadpan family dog, Brian. It takes awhile to get to the trip though, as the usual cultural reference gags and sexual innuendo fill the first reel. There are definitely a few laughs to be had, but no more than the average Sunday night TV version, and TV doesn’t require a rental fee. For Family Guy aficionados only, then.
