Last May, Halifax-bred Ryan Hemsworth began releasing underground jams by new DJs to his fans as Secret Songs. On Wednesday he's bringing his faves here for HPX's Secret Songs Showcase, and it's gonna be fire. Just 25, Hemsworth is a veritable DJ superstar. He's played Pitchfork Music Festival and Coachella, remixed some of pop and hip-hop's biggest hits, produced for huge artists and recently started a clothing line. His life is an emoji-illustrated, donair-flavoured dream, but his success is attributed to his enviable work ethic and incredible taste. He's also a super-chill guy.

Are you excited to come home with Secret Songs?

Yeah, I'm really excited to just have this chance to bring a bunch of friends to my hometown. I tried to make it a line-up that wouldn't really happen, and I think it's going to be a special night.

What do you miss about Halifax? Do you miss donairs the most?

Yeah. Not that I condone eating donairs every day, but if I could, I would. I guess I miss the size and speed of Halifax, compared to the cities I spend the most time in nowadays. Halifax is not so hectic. And I miss Two If By Sea.

What are some of your highlights from the last year?

The past year has been great! I've been between Asia, Europe and Australia. I got to share the stage with DJ Mustard and Rae Sremmurd. Performed at Coachella with Tinashe, and I have eaten as much different-coloured food as possible.

Are you into Childish Gambino's recent cover of Tamia's "So Into You?"

Yeah, that turned out cool. I was actually at the radio station when he was recording that. They have a lot of Silverchair posters. A bunch of us played a travelling festival in Australia two weeks ago and that station he performed on is called Triple J, which is like the coolest radio station in the world.

If you could work with anyone, what's your dream team?

Fiona Apple and/or Jesse Lacey from Brand New.

Tell me about your Secret Song home-dog, Skylar Spence.

Skylar Spence is like the best-kept secret. In my mind, he's pretty much a pop star. His music is really genuinely fun and addictive. Disco-leaning in the best way possible.
