Bruce DeVenne

Candidate for District 20

Email: [email protected]Website: www.bdevenne.com Telephone: 23-ELECT.

About

Years ago, the tainted blood scandal (specifically Hepatitis C infected blood) motivated Bruce to get political. The Commonwealth Games got him angry about the way government spends tax dollars. In fact, he was a vocal opponent of the Games and often appeared in the local and international press. A quick look at Bruce's website reveals he is a political outsider and a tell-it-like-it-is kinda guy. He doesn't like insiders much; especially Citizens for Halifax and Fred MacGillivray. He does like Tim Bousquet, which is a plus in our books.

Goals and Issues

Bruce is against tax reform. He calls it "the tax re-shuffle" and jokes that, "calling it tax reform is truly putting lipstick on a pig." He even included a cute photo of a pig with lipstick in his email response to us. He is against the high speed ferry from Bedford to downtown and in favour of more bus lanes and more buses. He advocates for more senior housing and parking for senior citizens. He wants fewer city councillors and more plebiscites. He opposed the Chebucto widening. The money the farmer's market received is another example of backroom dealing. Same goes for stadiums and new Metro Centres. He wants more local ice rinks and effective use of police to deal with the poroblem of violence. He wants more roads and road care.

Quoted

"I want to see 20/20 foresight when they spend our money, not 20/20 hindsight. Let's get on with spending on things we need, like roads and police." (From Halifax NewsNet)

"The secrecy of HRM council makes Howard Hugh's (sic) look as if he were an exhibitionist."
