Two-piece Cousins’ The Palm at the End of the Mind picks up where Out on Town left off, delivering a much louder record that perfectly captures the band’s live sound, developed in recent years. Recorded in part by Dave Ewenson at Echo Chamber, but primarily on four-track by lead-songwriter Aaron Mangle, Palm’s lo-fi aesthetic gives a sense of urgency to the chaotic drumming and clashing guitar riffs. Surprisingly for such a simple recording process, some of the most interesting aspects of the record come from the vocals, which are set low in the mix but ping-pong around the listener to create a truly psychedelic experience.
