Corporate welfare ignored

To the editor,

Not one news outlet in this province, including this one, picked up our press release on the Lockheed Martin swindle. Lockheed Martin, the world's largest weapons manufacturer, will be receiving $1.8 million in payroll rebates from the province of Nova Scotia for creating 100 new jobs over the next five years. They're creating those jobs with the $1.4 billion they received last year from the federal government to upgrade the navy's combat systems. This is a company that made $3 billion in profit in 2007! Their death-causing products have terrorized and killed civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's scandalous that federal and provincial governments gave the richest war machine on the planet billions of our dollars. The governments could have used that money to invest in education and health care and to tackle climate change. ---Kaleigh Trace
