Codapop Studios CD release

Ryan MacGrath, Molly Thomason, Telfer, Andrew Hunter & The Gatherers, Josh Dean

"When you say 'Codapop,' it's like there's a big question mark behind it," says Tammy Milbury, the business developer of newly formed Codapop Studios, which is owned by Milbury's partner, Doug Taylor. The studio, located in Taylor's basement, was actually built two years ago but Milbury says it hasn't been public until just this January. "He [Taylor] and his buddies would go to open mic nights and listen to music they'd like to hear, then he'd invite people to come into the studio to do a recording," says Milbury. "That's how we got started." This Wednesday the studio's releasing a compilation CD of its recording artists, with performances by Ryan MacGrath (pictured above), Molly Thomason, Andrew Hunter & The Gatherers, Telfer and Josh Dean (all artists have a recording on the CD). MacGrath recorded the bed tracks for his upcoming album in the studio at the beginning of February, which we're pretty excited about. Look for a second release party one week from this one, with musicians Sheva, Alex Buchanan, Kristina Trites, Emily Steeves Band and Buck Tingley.

Wednesday, March 10, Seahorse Tavern, 1665 Argyle Street, $6, 8pm
