Cloudburst

Good theatre gives people an opportunity to look in the mirror and decide if they like what they see. For many of us, a play about a foul-mouthed lesbian, her aging partner and a charming drifter might seem unlikely to cast familiar reflections. But with Cloudburst, Thom Fitzgerald has managed to write the universal within the specific. We are all longing for enduring love. We all want to be accepted by society. We’re all growing older and face death at the end of our journey. Carroll Godsman’s tough-yet-tender Stella worms her way into your heart, despite a vocabulary that would make a trucker blush. Deborah Allen does a beautiful job of portraying Dotty, a woman at home with herself and her lot in life. And Ryan Doucette creates the lovely Prentice, a little boy in a man’s body. He reminds us to open our hearts, no matter what obstacles we face. –Kate Watson (With 2pm matinees on Sundays.)
