Christmas leftovers

To the editor,

I noticed something that makes me sad and mad again this year, something I'm sure we've all noticed before. It was garbage day in the area where I work and the streets were lined with discarded Chritmas trees, ready to be picked up and taken away. Is this how we celebrate the birth of Christ?

In this highly commercialized society we have become disconnected and disrespectful of nature. This land is not my land or your land, we belong to the earth, the universe, the cosmos, let's make the best of this precious situation.

We need to take a good look at ourselves and the way we are living our lives. Our daily habits are the cause of much suffering. Try meditating on this and fasting once in a while, learn self-restraint, find value in things other than money and objects, love, share and help one another; we're capable of so much more than monetary success, we need to make changes or suffer the consequences.

And for those of you concerned about the tree farmers, it would be wise for the government to put them to work growing cannibas sativa, it's medicinal and economical.
