Christine Fellows
Nevertheless
Six Shooter
Sometimes you hear an artist and just know that if you met, you’d become friends. I like to think that of Winnipeg’s Christine Fellows, one of the most artistic and literary musicians working. There are references to poems by Marianne Moore and Yeats, and she pays homage to Tim Findley. Many of the disc’s songs were written as a score for Susie Burpee’s dance work, which explains their theatrical twists and turns. Nevertheless was recorded in an opera house and an industrial warehouse; Fellows, accompanied by a choir including hubby John K. Sampson, never lets the collaged compositions overpower her sweet voice.
