Chris Page

A Date With a Smoke Machine (Kelp)

If you were ever into the Glengarry, Ontario, pop-punk outfits The Stand GT or Camp Radio, then a new Chris Page solo record is something to get excited about. This, his first since 2004, is much like his entire output: all the melodic hooks and catchy riffs are there, except the tempo is toned down and he has finally embraced the acoustic guitar. Page's lyrics and confidence really come through, especially on "Closets Overflowing" and "Summertime Out," which have some lovely, fancy fretwork that would otherwise get forgotten if the Marshalls were turned on. So even though he has another high-octane Camp Radio album in the works, let's hope Chris Page keeps putting out solo discs like this.
