Even if you weren’t a Hip fan, it was mighty hard not to get swept up in the collective national emotional outpouring that followed the announcement that beloved Hip frontman Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and the cross-country tour, Man Machine Poem, would be his last. Though Halifax was not included in the 15-date tour, the chances are high that many Haligonians were tuned into the Hip’s final show of the tour, a hometown farewell in Kingston, Ontario, broadcast in all its heartbreaking glory (and commercial-free to boot!) on CBC.
