Seriously: is The Oval some wild shit or what? It was dropped on the Common last winter, almost unexpectedly as temporary speed skating ice for the Canada Games, and opened for the public a few weeks before and after. And the public came. And came. Thousands of people every day, bringing a new joy to our usually dreary winter. By February public enthusiasm for The Oval was so overwhelming that city council found a way, money be damned, to keep it; the permanent Oval is now under construction, for a planned mid-December opening.
