Best SuperCity Councillor

Dawn Sloane

Out of the three levels of government, municipal politics is toughest. City councillors don’t have the buffer of the federal or provincial bureaucracy to protect them from the plebian mobs. They deal with the nitty-gritty concerns of everyday life, like garbage disposal, parking tickets and, yes, the harbour clean-up project. Most difficult of all, they need to be able to look their constituents in the eye at the end of the day because, after all, they’re not only constituents, they’re neighbours. It’s a tough job, but you’ve decided that downtown Halifax’s Dawn Sloane is SuperCity councillor numero uno.

Runner-up: Sue Uteck
