For Joel Plaskett, it’s hard to say how his songwriting has changed over the years. “I’m too close to it,” he says. At the same time, Plaskett feels the subject matter of his work has expanded. “I think being a parent has changed my worldview a little bit, or maybe a lot,” he says, laughing. “My politics may be showing up a little bit more in my music.” Plaskett says he is writing songs that suit where his mind is right now, rather than trying to re-create what he did at age 20. “I think I’m just realizing: I’ve got a voice here, I wanna use it.”
