With an album that features Erin Costelo, Jessie Brown and Andrew Jackson, Roxy & The Underground Soul Sound has been bringing the rhythm and blues to Halifax for awhile now, and their friends are as inspiring to them as the legends. “As a band, we’re into the ’60s and ’70s,” says Roxylan Mercier Bennett. “As a front-singer, I grab inspiration from Etta James, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse.” They love to see people dance, so do it. Their next show is November 20 at Casino Nova Scotia, and it’s free.
