Even with Smoke’s Poutinerie setting up shop directly across the street, Willy’s has still snagged the win for Best Poutine. And that’s the unified title, incorporating the separate Best Poutine (Original) and Best Poutine (Extreme or Gourmet) categories from previous Best of Foods, back when we feared the nouveau wave of poutine recipes might be just a flash in the pan. With hand-cut fries, vegetarian gravy and loaded with cheese, Willy’s knows what’s up. Owner Geoff Williams says that even with the competition, dedicated customers keep flocking back for more. “The whole poutine thing was hot. It didn’t really affect out business because our customers like it here.” Now open for lunch from Tuesday ‘til Saturday, you can enjoy that classic, gravy-loaded dish any time of the day.
