Not quite sure why my opinion makes me odd & frightening, but OK. I agree with everything Mae said. Bark & Fitz, Naughty Dog, Global Pet Foods and House of Dogs are more than enough to get your supplies, instead of Willows and Pets Unlimited.
Interesting comments everyone...I agree that something must have occured in the voting for a place as "interesting" as Willows to win Best Of in 2007, 2008...as I understand it, the owner has friends at the Coast...makes you question the integrity of the winning, doesn't it? I also agree its sad, Pets Unlimited made the list...did anyone who voted for that actually ever shop there? Ever seen the puppies who are still there after 6 months? Six months! In a glass box...so incredibly sad. We should not support stores that sell animals by buying their animals or their supplies. Check out the Assoc for Responsible Pet Owners site, you will understand. On another note, if you are a pet owner in Halifax and specifically the downtown area, you have likely been into or shopped at Naughty Dog, Willows, and Bark & Fitz. You make your own decision. @ bestbestbest...you are out to lunch! Willows and Naughty Dog pretty much opened up within days of each other back in January 2006. And if you want to compare which was better, Naughty Dog looked like Backyard & Veranda and Willow's looked like Zellers. PLEASE. Where would you rather shop? Back to BEST OF...there are 3 shops, its your choice. Check them out for yourself (with your dog)...we did, Bark & Fitz won by a mile...and a lick & a wag!
Actually Haligonian 1234 I am in there all the time and the owner is wonderful every time I see her there. You are the one who seems odd and frightening.
@bestbestbest:
All the more sad that it's owned by such an odd & frightening person. I would shop there again if the place had new management. As it is, a store is only as good as its owners.
To those of you here who have targeted Willow's as not "list worthy" you're nuts. This shop was the very first in that area of town and has always been the very best. They have started from scratch, not piggy backed on anyone else's efforts or ideas and have always made not only huge efforts, but also huge sacrifices to support local, humane companies and charities. They have said from the very beginning that they exist to help improve the quality of life for all animals, and they do, every day. I also saw the other shops start campaigning to win the Best of Halifax award this year, using mass emails, facebook sites, blogs, posters, you name it. For the last two years in a row when none of the pet supply shops were campaigning, Willow's successfully won both years in a row without doing a single bit of campaigning. The only reason they didn't win this year is because the owner chose not to join in the campaign war. If you've ever had a problem in there it's you, not them. Congrats Willow's you're still the best as far as I'm concerned.
