“I’m wearing the sweatshirt right now!” says Joel Plaskett, whose bleeding-heart campaign to save the Khyber Centre for the Arts building on Barrington Street launched a social group. Working with designer and screen-print artist Emily Davidson, Plaskett organized an inventory of the shirts and sweaters with Scott and Kevin Zachary at New Scotland Clothing Co., with sales going to The Khyber Fund, which will help the group petition Halifax city council to restore the much-needed centre. It’s a one-of-kind space that is crucial to the arts community in Halifax, and the place where Plaskett got his start with Thrush Hermit, and for many other bands, too. “Plus, I got to reference my song, ‘Down at The Khyber,’ about where I met my wife Rebecca,” he says.
