Best karaoke host

Laurie the Guy

“Thank you, thank you very much,” says Laurie the Guy with his best Elvis voice. The king of karaoke, the prince of performance, has been at it for 18 years, and shows no sign of slowing down. He modestly attributes his success to a “bunch of good people,” and claims a perfect night is when “nothing gets broke, nothing gets stolen, I don’t get hurt and everyone has a good time.” Not much has changed over the years, he says, except for a rise in hardcore singers bringing in their own music. Country was a popular choice for awhile, but Laurie says, “It’s on its way out now.” Of course, ’80s heavy metal is always popular. He claims there are no songs that he’s sick of hearing, but “sometimes you hear a song on the radio, and it’s like, ‘Oh, that’s Joe’s song.’ I’ve heard it so much by Joe that it’s no longer April Wine, it’s Joe’s song.”

First runner up: Mimi Andriopoulis
