Best Coffee (Fancy)

Uncommon Grounds, 1030 South Park, 431-3101

Open just since January, Uncommon Grounds is a phenom in the Halifax coffee world to have won this category so quickly. “The coffee is so good,” says co-owner Gordon Stevens, “because of the care taken.” Espresso beans are roasted locally and ground in-store, and the staff is very well trained in using the coffee machines. The space itself is a delight. It could be a contender for Best Place to Feel Like You’re Not In Halifax in our Best of Halifax Survey. One area has traditional chairs and tables, the other is comfy cool with sofas and club chairs; lots of time went into design. But the first thing is to get the coffee right and, according to you Uncommon Grounds does it.

Runner-up: Second Cup, 5425 Spring Garden, 429-0883
