Patrick Crosby, 25, just started with Metro Transit in May, having moved on from a stint as an office clerk. “I’m not sitting behind a desk all day,” he says, explaining the appeal of driving the bus, which he intends to turn into a lifetime career. Crosby is assigned to the spareboard, which means he could pop up on any route that needs a substitute driver. He’s a friendly fellow who clearly enjoys talking to people, and says the most satisfying time on the job is when riders respond in kind. “When they’re saying ‘thank you,’ getting on, being talkative, those are the best days.”
