Before you take in Maritime Classic Cars' annual Cruisin' Quinpool (July 21, 7:30pm), stop in at Freeman's Little New York (6092 Quinpool Road, 429-0241), where the bright green patio is a people watcher's (and car lover's) dream.
It's the summer of Johnny Depp at alFresco filmFesto (Halifax waterfront, July 27-August 24), but you'll need to warm up when the sun goes down, so pop into the Waterfront Warehouse (1549 Lower Water Street, 425-7610). The huge patio is steps from the boardwalk, adorned with flags, lights and nautical rope. They've got oysters and a honkin' wine list, too.
You may have heard this is an Olympic year (July 27-August 12), and the Olympics aren't for hogging your 60-incher all to yourself, they're for camaraderie and national pride expressed in large groups, so get in on the action via one of the Lion's Head Tavern & Grill's (3081 Robie Street, 455-0181) many TVs, then step out on the patio to yell at rival supporters. If you're into cycling, these rules also apply to the Tour de France (June 30-July 22).
Z103's Summer Rush takes over Alderney Landing on August 6, so get some fortification against screaming teens first with a refined time at Nectar Social House (62 Ochterloney Street, 406-3363), the Dartmouth favourite hosts 40 people in the back on a secluded patio featuring a water fountain (featuring a fireplace within that water fountain, boom), umbrellas and gas heaters for when the chill blows in.
