Founded by authentic Frenchman Julien Didier 18 years ago, Julien’s bakery is the closest thing Halifax has to a European bakery. Artisan breads baked fresh each morning down in Chester, croissants and pastries along with the unique old-city vibe of the Hydrostone Market make Julien’s a favourite. Duane Malone took over this past December, but don’t worry—he has no plans to change what makes Julien’s special. The cafe is now open on Mondays and serves Java Blend coffee, but you’ll still have to wait until Tuesday morning for fresh bread.
