Best Activist Organization

Ecology Action Centre

All bike lanes lead to the EAC. Well not really, because there aren’t enough in the city, but they should. Your perennial choice for Best Activist Organization celebrated a big year---it turned 35 and instead of having a mid-life crisis, renovated a gorgeous new home, which is being used to demonstrate how anyone can turn their dwelling green. According to outreach coordinator Heather McKibbon, the EAC just signed its 1,000th member. Tackling diverse issues such as climate change, provincial forestry practices and a moratorium on high-seas bottom trawling, McKibbon says the EAC is successful because of “our unique organizational structure, although we still have to choose our battles.” 2705 Fern Lane, 429-2202
