It was a tie this year for what show you wanted to see more, U2 or Vans Warped Tour. While a U2 show coming here is about as likely as commercial success for Roland Blinn, all the other shows were, at one time, under consideration by Gigantic Entertainment’s Waye Mason. Here’s the untold story behind the top three shows you wanted to see come here the most in 2004.
Warped Tour: “Unless a sponsor like a beer company steps up to defray the costs, it is really hard to imagine this happening. Logistically it is very, very difficult, the tour loses at least a day of income because of the distances involved.” The Pixies: “We tried for five months and almost had them for the Pop Explosion. [But} we got scooped by a larger national promoter.”
Wilco: “That could happen. They’re too big for a bar, though; you’d need a lot of people to attend.”
