Resilience

Annabelle Chvostek
Resilience
Borealis
Chvostek has stepped out of the Wailin’ Jennys and put out a solo roots pop album showcasing her breadth as a singer/songwriter. “Resilience” starts the album slowly before veering to pure pop. “Seven Years” is reminiscent of older Neko Case melodies, “Wait for it” is a mandolin-tinged, country love-song romp and “Racing With the Sun” is working women’s blues. Some songs drag a little, but they’re made up for by the beautiful sing-along waltz “The Sioux,” a collaboration between Chvostek and Bruce Cockburn called “Driving Away” and “Nashville” with Mary Gauthier. Chvostek has a great voice and you just might find yourself singing along.
