Animal's attraction 

Dalhousie's latest exhibit examines our relationships with animals through video, sculpture, installation and photograph.

Dalhousie's current exhibit, the multi-media group show Animal, will get you thinking about power dynamics. It's a reminder of the complicated and varied relationships humans have with animals, and the different ways in which we see them. We have the power while viewing Dagmar Dahle's "Rare, Common, Extinct" where hole-ridden ceramic birds, Victorian women and even unicorns are displayed hierarchically on wooden boxes; Su Rynard's "Bear," a museum-style spectacle of her looping nine minute video capturing a family of bears dining on garbage and Lyndal Osbourne's labratory style display of collected shells, sponges and seaweed "Darwin and The Arc of Time." But just around the corner the eyes are on you---Lois Andison's "Animal Eyes," An Whitock's creepy murder of crows ("Crow(d)") and Tom Dean's defensive dogs ("Bitch Pack A") turn the tables, making the viewer the viewee and reconstructing the way we see the creatures.
