About
Andrea acquired her political acumen in the Texas Legislature, as an aide to Democrat Bob Glaze. She grew up in and around the peninsula, attending Tower Road, Gorsebrook and Queen Elizabeth high school. Since moving back to Halifax, she has been politically active women's leadership issue, participating in several campaigns across the province. Andrea works as a health policy consultant (currently, on a project for Health Canada). She worked for the QE II hospital during the amalgamation process. She ran her own consulting company and worked for bio-medical and pharmaceutical companies in Toronto. She has a Masters in Health Services Administration from Dal.Her c.v. looks impressive - uh, why does she want this job again?
Goals and Issues
Andrea has possibly the nicest websites of all the candidates in the city (who does your site? ed.), as well as a Facebook group and Google Ads. Her site features fancy ideograms that identify each of the issues she considers important for the district: "Live Safely"; "Commute Easily"; "Tax Fairly"; "Develop Respectfully"; and "Enjoy Learning."
Hilchie-Pye not only lists her goals and issues, but she sometimes takes a stand on these issues which is unusual for politicians in an election. For instance:
- She stands behind the report by the Mayor's Task Force on Violence.
- Sure, she wants more buses and bike lanes, but radically, she wants to make the whole peninsula a "low speed vehicle zone," lowering the speed limit to 40 km/h and 30 km/h in school zones. She told the Coast "traffic congestion and excessive speed" are key issues for Fourteen.
- Andrea is into heritage, but she is also into progress, green space and growth. Unclear. Clear: she "will advocate that developers who restore heritage properties on the peninsula should not pay property tax for up to ten years."
- Taxes. I am not sure where she stands on taxes. She says she is for tax reform as long as "no taxpayer is left in a worse position by paying more tax." Uh, but won't some people pay more tax if reform goes through? Doe that mean she is against tax reform? She told the Coast "property taxes" are a key issue for her district. Okay, She's for tax reform.

Andrea belongs to the Canadian Public Health Association, the Nova Scotia Public Health Association, the Prevent Violence Canada and the Junior League of Canada. She is also a card-carrying member of the Liberal Party.
