Jesse Robson, the co-founder and managing director of Happily Ever Active, is new to the city, but that didn't stop her from immediately giving back with a non-profit organization that encourages seniors to stay physically active through arts programs and other "non-traditional" forms of exercise, and she's not done brainstorming yet. This Friday, Happily Ever Active turns its attention to a younger group—aiming to bring out artists that run outreach programs, young adults, and anyone who cares about the arts scene in Halifax to explore what kind of creative social programs are out there targeting youth. "Most of us are students so we don't really have a broad network," says Robson. "We don't really know what artists are doing or what funding is available. Initially we organized this as an opportunity to really find out what the face of arts for social change looks like in Halifax...and everyone was really surprised just how many [programs] there are and the variety that is out there." Inclusivity, interactivity and well-being are the name of the game, so don't think you'll roll up into a conference-style setting. Plus, there'll be a jam session, free food, networking and informal exhibits to help you figure out just where it is that you fit in.
