        <![CDATA[Say what you will about the Save the View group, which was formed in opposition to the proposed convention centre in Halifax, but there's no denying that they are dogged, and determined to bring real analysis to figures that are seemingly randomly generated by Trade Centre Limited and other pro-convention centre groups. <p>
Today, Save the View sent me their analysis of the local hotel industry and how that would be affected by the addition of 500 more hotel rooms at the convention centre.&hellip;

        <![CDATA[The city has fired Blair Cromwell, a firefighter who is part of a human rights complaint against the city. The human rights complaint alleges racial discrimination, while the city fired Cromwell for insubordination.<p>
Cromwell has been a firefighter with the city since 1988, and has been battling what he calls racist attitudes among management for most of that period, although he says he gets along well with other firefighters.&hellip;

        <![CDATA[In <a href="http://www.thecoast.ca/halifax/upfront/Content?category=957825">today's editorial</a> I argue that there is an inverse relationship between the number of people represented by an elected official and voter turnout--- that is, the smaller the district, the greater the turnout. <p>
By no means is that relationship absolute---there are lots and lots of factors that help determine voter turnout, ranging from the importance of the issues in play to the strength of local voting tradition to the personalities of the candidates to the weather on election day.&hellip;
