I don't know who it is that you're asking and is giving you such an answer. I'm certainly not a scientist but I can assume the reason to be that it reuses material such as plastic and paper, which stops them from just being thrown into a landfill or some other place (which harms the environment) and stops the need for further pollution and depletion of natural resources (again, which harms the environment) with the creation of more plastic and paper.
