This is ridiculous. By cutting this program, Mount Allison is deliberately undermining women's history, voices, literature, and contributions to academia. Unfortunately due to the already misogynistic culture of university programs, women (particularly women of colour, indigenous women, trans women etc.) are systemically marginalized in mainstream academics. Look at any syllabus of almost and program (with the exception of GWST) and you will see that men dominate their fields. Funding GWST programs is not an option. Universities have an ethical obligation as so-called 'progressive bastions of educational advancement' to fund these programs, and to incorporate GWST literature and research into all other fields and departments. Beyond this, it is evident that the GWST program is not a source of financial damage for the University, if budget cuts were truly the problem. This is a regressive and misogynistic move on behalf of Mount A.
