I don't disagree with the assessment of our current city council, but I disagree with the hyperbole. City council in the 1960s were pretty heavily involved in coercing and forcibly removing people-- expropriating land from private citizens-- from Africville, Brunswick Street, and a big chunk of downtown-- in order to create the shining legacy of the Uniacke Square projects, Scotia Square complex and that highway to nowhere that eats up most of the waterfront. So... this bunch isn't the worst.
What wonderful news. If only Mr. Kelly could be believed. His insincerity on this issue permeates every word of his press release. This announcement is a response to the spotlight thrown on the council's secret "in camera" meeting practices by the Occupy protest debacle, but the practice has been a staple of Kelly's approach to government all along. And what about the discussion and voting record details of years of these secret meetings in the past, will they become public? For example, I would be interested to know which HRM councillors voted in secret to not investigate the concert scandal, and why.
I'm so glad the convention centre finally has some tenants.
In defence of The Coast, Annoyed, my assistant also phoned the Mayor's office a week prior to the Coast's report of the cancelled awards, and we were told directly by the city staff that the awards were cancelled. There was NO misunderstanding with my office, so I don't believe there was a misunderstanding with Theatre NS. It is clear the Mayor's office actually back-pedalled. Whether Mayor Kelly himself knew his staff was repeatedly announcing the cancellation of the awards is unknown, but they were indeed cancelled.
This show is part of THE SEX FESTIVAL !
That's quite a supper. And quite a nice family.
Baan Thai is a great place to eat and relax. The proprietor is friendly and warm, the service among the best in town. It's one of the best spots in town for vegetarians.
Having recently enjoyed 5 months of Thai food all over Thailand, I attest that this restaurant offers great examples of Thai cuisine, which is itself influenced by many Asian tastes. The amount of spice is reflective of actual Thai chefs, not the crazy hot you get at some other places in Canada.
By Halifax restaurant standards, which are steadily improving, this place is great.
Re: “What Mike Savage's campaign contributors mean to Halifax”
Candidate Savage accepted $5000 cheques from developers and he personally pocketed $30k of that money.
In the coming months, all those developers, property management firms and private investment firms will be seeking permits and deals from HRM. And the moment Mayor Savage opens his mouth to participate in discussions he will be in breach of the provincial and city conflict of interest laws.
