If you only get out of town once this summer, be sure it's to Ross Creek to see the breathtakingly beautiful outdoor production of Allen Cole's Rockbound. It's simply the most exciting piece of theatre that I've seen, probably ever. Based on the 1928 novel by Frank Parker Day, it's a story of love and greed set in the loosely fictionalized Mahone Bay region. Cole's haunting music is an integral part of telling this story, and the difficult score is made to seem easy by the stellar cast. Frank Moore owns the stage as the canny and grasping "King of Rockbound," Uriah. James McDonald is lovely as David Jung, Uriah's young challenger. The supporting cast members all shine, both musically and dramatically. I'm sure that Rockbound will eventually play all across Canada, but it is an honour and pleasure to have seen this amazing inaugural production of it. Kate Watson
