Re: “Wicker Emporium's Madan Kapahi

I love Wicker Emporium. I used to work for them part time. Their products are great, the prices are very reasonable, and they bring in some really unique pieces. I especially love their textiles and furniture - they are definitely more than baskets and rattan!

Re: “Dave Nauss, the fixer

I grew up on Allan St. and vividly remember taking my crappy bike to Jack Nauss week after week to put my chain back on. I was only 7 or 8 at the time. He was a legend in our neighborhood, everybody loved those guys.

Re: “Dave Nauss, the fixer

My first visit to a bike shop in Halifax was to Nauss on Robie. Glad to hear they're still sticking to the 'race wheels are weak' line (; Some things never change.

Re: “Dave Nauss, the fixer

Yep. It was Colquhoun's, on Cunard at Agricola. Jack worked there before opening his own shop

Re: “Dave Nauss, the fixer

Great story about a Halifax institution that has outlasted CTC , the box stores. Taught us all how to take care of our bikes.

Does anyone remember the bike shop before Jack Nauss? My memory says Cahoon (sp?) on Cunard Street across from the Armories.

Re: “Letter from the Founders

Way to go Coast! I've been depending on The Coast to let me know what's going down in HaliTown since the beginning, and I've never been let down! Even now that I've moved away, I still read online (and pick up the paper copy when I'm home), so I can keep in touch with Halifax, and the many changes that happen. Thanks for hanging in there! :)

Re: “Resto revolution

Greg, is that why you tried to destroy a few small business owners who were offering a u-vint service? Or were you happy to work with these folks who serve a market niche as well? The NSLC is such a joke. I would love to see them try to survive in a free market. Not hard to make money when you are the only game in town. You should be embarrassed to post here.

Re: “Resto revolution

Liz, nice article, but on behalf of the NSLC, I would like to advise that we haven't been a "Comission" since 2001, that we don't have bony claws, we don't practice persecution, and that our friends at the private wine stores are free to import almost anything they want, despite our "draconian restrictions". They serve a market niche quite well and we are always happy to work with them.
