Re: “Future Shop

I will give a rating but only so people can see how unhappy I am with the service my computer went on the blink and so we researched on line for the perfect computer for my family and it was at the future shop. It stated sold in stores so we got ready to go out even though it was a snowy weekend (Feb 10/12) the store was almost empty lots of staff standing around talking to each other not to us ... finally after 10 min of being ignored (note it was longer this is only after I started timing) We went to find someone we asked a young man about the computer we were looking for mentioned we had seen it on line oh we do not carry most of the models listed on line ... he then proceeded to walk away ... my husband and I looked at each other laughed at the rotten service and went to Staples to buy our computer.

Re: “Splice

I had a busted hard drive in my iMac and they fixed it within a day. When I went to pick it up, it was a little before closing and no one was in, so as compensation they did a free data recovery off my old hard drive and a picked it up a day or so later. It was well worth the wait. Very impressed. Excellent service and excellent pricing. Highly recommended. I won't go anywhere else.

Re: “Splice

Excellent service. I had a busted hard drive in my iMac and they fixed it within one or two days. Not only did they fix the hard drive, they cleaned it inside and out. Because no one was in the store when I came to pick it up, they did a free data recovery from my old hard drive to compensate, and I picked it up a couple days later. I was barely annoyed that no one was there because the service was otherwise so great, and the price was very reasonable. Very impressed. Highly recommended!

Re: “Blowers Street Paper Chase Newsstand & Cafe

Service is not too bad, but it's a cafe, not a restaurant, so one's expectations are always slightly lower. The food is fantastic, especially if you love vegetarian and Lebanese-inspired, and it's easy to get a cheap meal. View and interior setup is cozy.

A charming shop in Downtown Dartmouth. A true Dartmouth gem!

Re: “The Last Gamestore

This store is terrible! My first impression upon entering "The Last Game Store" was that they have more plushies than actual games. Their collection of video games is extremely underwhelming, having mostly newer games that could be bought at other retailers like EB Games (The only difference is that The Last Game Store charges more for them.) As I stared into dusty display cases I quickly that realized the small collection of retro games (NES, SNES, 64) that they do have is very disappointing. I didn't see a single game that isn't currently on Kijiji by the dozens for half the price. The Nintendo Entertainment Systems that covered the wall, were turned into what appeared to be pre-school art work, which was almost as much as an eye-sore as the dim-witted employees. Typically speaking, the employees at a video game store should know a thing or two about video games. Such is not the case at The Last Game Store! Customer Service does not seem to be a priority since I was not greeted upon entrance or offered any assistance.
In conclusion, I do recommend the store to anybody at all! I wish the website allowed me to put a lower rating than 1/5!

Re: “Quantum Frontier Games & Comics

I've been to this store 4 or 5 times, I have been ignored every time by the Owner Patrick McMerty. The only way I know his name is because I facebook creeped this pitiful store.

I keep hearing how he's got great customer relationships, but I can't see how this is possible, I have had no luck and 2 of my friends haven't either. We never go to the store together we've all had our own separate experiences I don't know what's up this guys ass.

My last and final experience was pretty maddening. I was in looking at magic cards and he was on the phone the whole time. I waited patiently at the counter so I could look at the magic cards behind the counter, finally after about 5 minutes I said screw this and I took a step BESIDE the counter to have a better look and this dude flipped his shit at me thinking I was going to go behind the counter.

I can't believe Live 105 is a supporter of this guys crap. I'm glad they're supporting Geeks and all, but seriously, go to Monster Comics. Quantum frontier seems like a place for children and social rejects where Monster Comics seems like a place for more serious gamers and on a side note, people who shower at least once a week.

Re: “Choco Cafe

Extremely nice people that own this place, they always give out chocolate samples---delish... and their hot chocolate is probably the best in the city.

Re: “Strange Adventures Comic Bookshop, Halifax

A Halifax staple for sure. Just not my number one pick for where to get my comics. While never intentionally rude (at least I hope) I've found that reception from staff can vary from indifferent to tolerant depending on whose working, the fact that I'll get the occasional sideways look when I ask about a book that isn't 'indie' enough for some staffers' tastes doesn't help either. Overall I like the store itself and love what it does for bringing the limelight to local talent, It's just not consistent enough in customer service for me to bother making it my weekly destination.

Re: “Monster Comic Lounge

Easily my favourite store in the city.

The owner is a great guy to talk to and deal with, the staff acknowledges you with a smile and is always willing to try and help, I can easily lose an hour going to pick up a single book just because I'll be enjoying myself too much just shooting the shit with whoever's working. I cancelled my account at another local store after just my second visit to Monster because of their awesome service.

Great stock and selection for older games and back-issues, and if they don't have it they'll go out of their way to order it. Love their approach to stock too, asked the owner one day and he said he'd rather have one of everything so that everyone can find something they like instead of 100 copies of the 'it' thing.

I guess my favourite part is that I've finally found somewhere to get my funny books that isn't caught up in all the hipster/holier-than-thou/my-hobby-is-better-than-your-hobby attitudes that other stores, conventions and communities in this city have a Strange fixation with...

Re: “Blowers Street Paper Chase Newsstand & Cafe

Finding a decent sandwich in downtown Halifax is difficult as it is, let alone having to pay through the nose to get one; the Blowers Street Paper Chase is a place to avoid.

I had forgotten how bad it was at there… today was no exception. While I didn’t have to wait as long as I’ve had to in the past (it was raining and no one was out), there still is only one person making food. With a more complicated - albeit simple - menu, one person filling orders isn’t enough; they always fall behind and you wait and wait and…

I paid the ransom. I call it a ransom as the cost of my sandwich was 45% more than the average, based on the cost of the same sandwich at four other downtown Halifax locations.

To top it off, not only did I pay a debit terminal fee (I must pay to buy your food, that’s an interesting concept), you to put it in an un-recyclable Styrofoam container. The terminal fee must cover the cost of the container…?!

So, I’ll eat and try to enjoy my $9 sandwich; but I won’t be back again. Lesson learned.

Re: “Paws@Home

We have hired Paws@Home numerous times (both for live in and drop in) to look after our two cats and we couldn't be happier with the service! Our cats were well taken care of and were obviously shown lots of love in our absence. I would definitely recommend the service offered by Paws@Home to all pet owners!

Re: “The Last Gamestore

This store is the heart of retro gaming culture in Halifax. The owner personally participates and volunteers his time and space for various gaming events over the course of the year. The selection is astounding and the prices can't be beat.

Oftentimes even cheaper than online sites once shipping is accounted for. Especially for those "collector's" titles where you'd need a mortgage to get it on eBay.

It also helps he's very knowledgeable.

Also, his dog is handsome.

Adam is probably the most handsome man I have ever seen. His vast amounts of charm are only equaled by his wealth of knowledge.

Re: “The Last Gamestore

One of the best gaming stores I've ever been in, a lot of rare games and great collectibles. Also the best retail staff I've ever dealt with; they always do everything in their power to help you find exactly what you're looking for.
