Re: “Bigger love: polyamory in Halifax

Excellent article, but your definition of polyamory in the glossary misses a key defining part: being in romantic relationships with multiple people at the same time *with the knowledge and consent of all concerned.*

This was central to the definition by the word's inventor in 1990, and when it entered the Oxford English Dictionary in 2006, and as understool throughout the poly community today.

Cheers,

Re: “Halifax's hidden racism

I grew up half-black in NS, both parents highly educated and successful professionals. You'd think I had it made. Wrong. By the time I was in my teens my self esteem was in the toilet because of the racism I'd experienced from elementary school on. I was suicidal. Someone calling me "nigger" followed by a fist-fight was a common occurrence for me. No wonder I'm a good fighter today and practice and love combat sports. I left the east coast and traveled overseas to big cities and have healed immensely since. Racism is insidious and its effects are psychological. Today I'm a lawyer (thanks to inheriting the smarts of my folks) and live in a big city. Sure racism exists here but much much less as the open-minded and educated tend to make their way here.

Re: “NSCAD sticks it to 'em

There was a recent "Bitch" in which a NSCAD student spoke about a man denigrating the college and the offender references the movie "I am Legend" as part of an analogy. Interesting coincidence.

Re: “Built to last

Fantastic!

I put together a group to teach each other energy efficiency retrofits for existing homes. We worked on each others' homes. A small grant paid a HERS EE rater to blower door test our homes. We got from 17% to 40% improvements in leakage, and additional benefits, including shared goodwill.

My 30 years of R&D experience have shown me you only need to be an expert if you want to competitively produce lots of good products.

Re: “NSCAD sticks it to 'em

A real NSCAD student would have made a better artistic looking decal.

Re: “Making the Mooseheads

More nit-picking, in discussing the furthest the franchise has ever gone in the playoffs, Kimber clearly forgot about the thrilling 2003, and 2005 Presidents Cup final runs (the FOURTH of four playoff rounds, not third of four) the Moose went on. Yes, they both ended in losses (Game 7 Hull 2003, still don't wanna talk about it) and we were doomed against the Crosby led Oceanic in '05. Otherwise, it was good to relive some critical moves and hopefully the tandem of Russell and Ducharme can be locked up long term to turn the Moose into the likes of Quebec, Rimouski and Gatineau and be an annual contender for the championship.

Re: “Making the Mooseheads

I love the article. I have to call you on the 43 games with atleast a point stat. Their six regulation losses were spread out enough that there was no stretch even close to 43 games where they earned atleast a point. Pretty sure that would have drawn significant national attention.

Re: “Got it Made

For anyone who doesn't want to go clicking, they appear to be $2.25-2.50 per 60g bar(you need to order $54 dollars worth to get that quarter off).

Re: “Reflections to take over TAO?

Halloween or Pride night is always jammed at Refs but it's just their dance floor that needs to get bigger, not the actual bar. I think TAO would be a good fit. As gross and shady as this bar is, it's important that we have a gay bar Downtown.

Re: “Reflections to take over TAO?

The only times I've been to Reflections it hasn't been more than a third full. Maybe it gets fuller with big events, but my experiences make me think it could fit into Tao okay.

I'm curious to see what the impact of having Reflections and Pacifico in such close proximity will be in terms of the number of drunk people on one street.

Re: “Halifax's hidden racism

There's nobody who is white or one that is black. All man have brown skin; a dark brown, light brown and lighter brown skin colour. It was man's greed for superiority, politics, religion, domination and power that made some people discriminate others by calling them selves white and others black. Man has created problems in the world that he's generations cannot solve. The result of racism is crime, hate, evil, gangsterism, violence, war etc. because the ones that were denied love found a vaccuum within them which was replaced by hate and evil. The street showed no love to them, their kind showed no love to them, they became strangers among their kind. As Humans they have to survive through crime, drugs, evil etc. in a competitive world in which they inhabit.
Man has not seen anything yet. Man has been the cause of the first and second world war, terrorism, civil wars, disease outbreaks, blood bath, evil, the beast called man has been reproducing thorns and thistles of its kind and the evil(wrath) in man will destroy man.
we await when men will destroy themselves from the planet with nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction.
