Re: “Caribbean Twist

I would like nothing more than to be able to leave a positive review for this restaurant in the North end of halifax. However, over the past 6 months, I have never ever been so disappointed in a restaurant as I have been with Carribean Twist. I like to order the potato rotti but of the 8 times we showed up to have lunch, only 3 times was this so-called popular dish available. What is worse is that on 3 occasions, we called ahead to confim that they had the potato rotti as we were coming for lunch and would be ordering it. Each time we were told yes and when we got there, we were either told they had no rotti OR that it would take 45 minutes because they had no potato ready. We were a bit put out the first time, but didn't say too much. However, by the THIRD time, we were quite appalled at how they ran their business. I think they told us it was available, just to get us in there as they thought we would go ahead and order something else. On the last occasion this happened, when the guy who worked there came out to say it would be 45 minutes (despite having called ahead 25 minutes earlier), he laughed about it and not only did not apologize, but did not care that customers were being treated this way. I will never eat at this restaurant again and would suggest that they do something about their customer service nad ensure that when they tell a customer something is available, they make sure that it is before a customer drives to the other end of town. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Re: “Genji Sushi

I love this place, it's our sushi date place of choice. The prices are fair. They have discounts for service members and students. The atmosphere is quiet, and relaxing. I would however suggest music. I enjoy the service and the food is really good. I think you would love this place for your sushi needs.

Re: “The WORKS Gourmet Burger Bistro

It is hard to find a burger place that I (a carnivore) and my wife (a vegetarian) both enjoy...that is until now. The Works has delicious choices for beef burgers as well as veggie/vegan burgers and sides. Brand new, cool interior, great food and professional service made for a great time. Try the milkshakes, thick and delicious.

Re: “Le French Fix Pâtisserie

In reviewing Le French Fix's reviews on Yelp, I found the experience of others VASTLY different from my own.

Pâtisseries are a great addition to Halifax, but if you’re going to do it, do it properly. Too focused on being a restaurant, the selection in the display case at Le French Fix is greatly lacking.

On my first visit, the weak coffee was either an attempt to save money or the inability to make a decent pot; I’ll assume the brand is a decent one. When a tart is labelled “citron”, it should taste of lemon. This was lack-lustre; piping the word “citron” didn’t add to the flavour.

On my second (let’s-give-it-another-try) visit, I saw nothing new. Worse, in the case were two trays of macaroons that were clearly commercially made; the common types you can find most anywhere – the custom plastic-molded trays was a clear giveaway.

And the final insult was the price of these tiny cakes – the size of a Tim-Bit - valued at $1.95ea.

Yes, I LOVE pâtisseries – I visit them each time I travel. Halifax needs one… know of any?

Re: “Modern Orchid

Highly recommend. Ordered takeout from here last week, the quality, quantity and taste of the food was amazing! Will be coming back again and again. Sad to be moving to Alberta soon. Will get in lots of orders in the next couple months!

Re: “Jack Astor’s Bar and Grill

They used to half excellent staff at this restaurant. Now the mostly female servers are under aged, under trained, over sexed, and rude. One server referred to her outfit as "a hooker outfit".

And if you want the server’s thumb in your dinner plate this is the place for you. Rule #1 for any server: DO NOT TOUCH THE CUSTOMER’S FOOD.

Numerous times servers have asked "What are your plans for the rest of the night?" NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. Obviously they are trained to make such "small talk" as the exact same phrase was used each time.

Re: “Brooklyn Warehouse

I have been at the Brooklyn Warehouse a number of times and I absolutely love the food, the atmosphere, the drinks and the service. I am vegetarian, and I really appreciate the changing menu, which gives me a new option every month. The one problem I have is the portion size/price for the vegetarian main. To me the ratio is a bit skewed. The cost of the vegetarian main is around 80-90% of the meat dishes. I am happy to pay as much for vegetarian food as for meat, but for that, the portion size just isn't big enough. And that's a huge shame, since the food is very tasty and I hate to leave the restaurant still hungry (happend at more than one occasion unfortunately).

Re: “Habaneros Modern Taco Bar

I LOVE this place. I would recommend that anyone try it. If you like spicy, they can definitely do that for you, but there are lots of options for those who aren't huge fans of spice! You can't escape a ton of flavour though, so if totally bland is your thing, maybe skip this one.

The ingredients (meats, veggies, etc.) are always fresh, made there, and the staff are absolutely fantastic. For about $10 you can get a huge meal with the speed of fast food, but without the icky, greasy feeling.

Just try it!!

Re: “Canadiana Restaurant & Lounge

Very sad. I usually purchase the family fish and chips as a take out. I went on April 8th which is a Monday night. I would think not the busiest night, to turn away business. The price is around 30.00 which is not the best price but the fish is good. The man behind the counter tonight decided they will not be selling the family fish and chips any more. Not really sure why as I did not get a reason. Needless to say I will not be back and I will never darken their door step again.

Re: “Neptune Theatre

This was the most amazing theatre production I have ever seen!!! The show is high energy with an incredible storyline. Every character is so well played from start to finish. Anyone who hasn't seen it yet, get a ticket fast. I plan on going a second time. Well done everyone!!! I plan on encouraging everyone I meet to go see this!! Well done Neptune, you have
outdone yourself this time!!
I rate this 10/10 stars without question!!!

Re: “The Carleton Music Bar & Grill

If you're going to the Carleton, don't go for dinner.
The fries were cold and the steak was not worth the cost - and it took 35 minutes to get to the table.
Cool atmosphere and ambiance, but the poor service and sub-par food killed it for me.

Re: “Sydelle's Deli

I love their food. Their hamburgers and fish and chips are the best in HRM. I have also heard some great things about their deli meat sandwiches. Their building isn't fancy but I don't care about ambiance with food as good as theirs plus the owners are really friendly.

Re: “Emma's Eatery

A great little find down in Eastern Passage.. I love breakfast foods and the Eggs Benedict is great.. a common meal I make at home but mine just does not compare.. everything is definitely made fresh.

Aside from the food the atmosphere will bring me back.. a great family like environment. Friendly staff and the owner is always there and has came out and spoke directly to me on a few different occasions.
