I have never been to his salon, but I am a regular at Concepts Hair School and he is always there when I am and I don't like him, as do most of the students there. He is always coming around, commenting on what the students are doing, trying to talk them into getting their hair done by him in exchange of free products. It is pretty annoying, especially when you are trying to talk with your stylist and he comes and gets in the way. I haven't been really impressed on the style he does, but I guess it might reach a certain type of people. He is quite arrogant, and pretty expensive as well. I much less for a half head of roots touch up with treatments and cut included than his lowest women pricing, to give you an idea. Not a fan of his person and given that the students don't even like him it's not really a good sign...

This is the absolute worst service I have ever received. Luckily I was not there to get a hair cut, but rather just to purchase a hair product. Before buying, I asked a hair stylist who was ringing me in what their return policy was because I didn't know if I was picking up the right product and wanted to make sure it was. She advised they had a 30 day policy, like everyone else. I purchased the product, and while I stood there waiting for my receipt the salon owner came over to take over the transaction. He handed me my debit receipt, but I asked for the official one and he started screaming at me, saying "why would you need an original receipt. You dont need a receipt". I advised him that I did if I wanted to return it, and he continued to scream at me in a very confrontational way. I replied to him that the hair stylist said there was 30 days. He then took that opportunity to turn to her and scream at her for being so stupid. I took that opportunity to run out of the store, since the attention was no longer on me. I am very very upset with my mistreatment and I will NEVER go back there. Please dont make the mistake of going there!

I do not recommend this salon. The female stylist is young and inexperienced. There are much better salons in Halifax.

This review is for Shades Hair Studio (Located in the same space as Shades of Pink Nail Salon) *** I am very disappointed with the services provided and the attitude of the manager (if that's even who I was speaking to) when I called in to complain, she showed no empathy - I suggest they look into training for her.
Am I crazy for thinking someone should be able to receive a refund when you pay over $120 to get color/foils/a cut and are told the foils are going to stand out (I wanted a redish brown all over color with brighter red chunky foils) and when you leave the salon it looks like you just dyed your hair a solid brown color (except for the roots because a permanent redish color was used on them)...You are also left with split ends at the ends of your hair...And to top it off the stylist, as they were quickly cutting your hair, grabbed your bang area and cut it without even discussing what you wanted to do with it first. I was in the process of growing them out because I HATE myself with bangs.
All I wanted was my money back. I guess thats too much to ask.
If you're looking to have bangs cut when you don't want bangs, permanent red roots, an all over semi permanent dark brown color (with patches of golden brown showing through...the color you had before your trip), foils which are not noticable, split ends, and have someone push on your forehead each time instead of verbally asking you to tilt....Then I would highly recommend this salon.

I asked for my hair to be cut with the proper length for a fauxhawk. He makes me look like a backstreet boy every time. Christ.

I'm going to start off by saying that I NEVER go online to rate anything but after my experience at this salon I felt compelled to do so. With no exaggeration, this was the worst salon experience of my life. I made an appointment (personally stopped by the salon) one month in advance with one of the salon owners (ziyad/zac) to have my hair styled for my best friend's wedding. I was a bridesmaid and needed to be ready early so I had made the appointment for 9:30 am (I saw him personally write it down in the book along with my home and cell number). I called the day before to confirm my appointment and spoke to Zac to see if I could come in 15 minutes earlier. He then acted surprised and said "That appointment is so early! Who made the appointment?!" to which I responded "You did". Then I asked if he could still make it at 9:30, and he said I'll try my best to make it on time. I was worried he'd be 10-15 minutes late but I had no clue that he would not show up AT ALL the next day. A poor junior stylist opened the shop at around 9:40 - she had no idea who I was.. She thought I wanted a blowout.. At this point I tried to remain calm.. I showed her what I wanted done and thought that she could get started until Zac showed up. She did what she could with her limited experience but I came out with something that does not come close to a salon quality hair-do. Not only am I disgusted with the fact that one of the salon OWNERS did not have the respect to call and cancel when he knew that I had an important event, but he also left a member of his staff out of the blue and put her in a very uncomfortable situation. In short, this salon does not even deserve the one star rating but as it is the lowest, I guess it'll have to do.

Be prepared for SURPRISES if you go there! and no, they are not necessarily good ones!
I went there for highlights, but he also decided to trim my hair! but instead of trimming, he cut couple inches off my hair, and now I'm left with a curtly short hair with uneven layers!! I told him several times that I don't want my hair shorter than what it is. he doesn't listen to what you say at all!!!!
He's very unorganized! he was busy with another customer and left my highlight color for too long and now I barely see any highlights! and he still charged me the same price! oh, and his brushes are full of other people's hair!!!!
Not to mention his rough head wash and blow dry! I had water all over my face and down my shirt. instead of asking me to move up, he'd pull my hair up toward him so I move!!! he hit the brush to my head couple times while blow drying and pulled my hair again and again and again!
he doesn't have manner and he's treats his poor assistant like his slave!!!
I will never ever go back there, and won't recommend to anyone!

Went there to trim the sides and back. I got dreads/normal hair on the sides. Worst attitude/service ever. Prejudice at its best. At least clean the hair all over me..
Totally worthless.

Don't go here. He's rough, doesn't listen to what you want and charges you double. I'm 200$ poorer and very unhappy with my hair. For that much money I should have walked away happy and feeling refreshed. Instead I found myself at the drug store looking for colour remover.

Another bad haircut! Why is it that stylists DO NOT listen to the customer? I had a cut that I loved and just wanted it freshened up but left with 3" less than when I went in! I would NEVER suggest this salon to anyone! It was not clean, there was hair on the carpet(yes carpet) when I got there and everything looked old, shabby, and unfinished. Worst of all is that it will take at least 6 months to grow back the hair cut that I loved! And as with the reviewer above I left really upset with the stylist telling me that she had only cut off 1/2 inch of hair! Not only is she a bad stylist but she is obviously deaf and blind as well! Just saying!

I went to this salon because of the great reviews on this page. All I wanted was a haircut and highlights and instead I got a lecture from Kevan about how the haircut I wanted was outdated and how the color I wanted was "not suitable". Anyway this guy was just soo full of himself and borderline mean. Maybe it's just me, but I thought stylists were supposed to be accommodating.. Anyway, I felt really upset after I left the salon. So just fair warning to you.

This is for the Mic Mac Mall location: My experience there today was absolutely awful. The stylist was trying to pressure me into getting highlights the entire time he was cutting my hair (if I wanted them, I would have asked for them!), and then at the end, the man at the cash register asked me why I didn't get highlights! And the cut itself was not what I asked for. I have short curly hair that I wear in a layered, inverted bob. He didn't cut any layers into it, and if you kind of squint it looks slightly longer in the front, but overall it's just kind of mushroom shaped. And I payed $45 for this! I could have done it myself in the bathroom with a pair of scissors.

Be careful!
As you get further into your treatment, they increase the settings. Towards the end of my treatment, the technician severely burned my skin. The settings were too high, and now I have permanent scars that will not go away. Bottom line, go at your own risk.

I went to get my cut at the Artisans 3 in spring garden. After a consultation with a "master" stylist, I was convinced into highlights. with in 5 foils the lady (who was nice enough) laughed and stated the boss said everyone is a master, and that she had finished school not 6 months before and didn not have her diploma. Being uncomfortable did not prepare me for the way I was treated by the Boss Zac who commented on my body in a very unappealing way. I decided against the cut when the person beside me was upset over the amount of hair lost in her cut. This was a great choice since the highlights broke off with in a couple of inches from my scalp:(

This place is not recommendable. I went there to get a haircut this week and I had to go to another haircutter afterwards to fix it.

Re: “Flaunt Hair Salon”
I used to love this salon but when i last had my hair coloured there, they used redlkin on my hair when I specifically asked for goldwell colour. After explaining the situation to the owner she wasn't willing to help me or give me my money back. Will not return.
