This Saturday night there’s going to be a Face Off on CBC. Don’t worry; it’s not the John Travolta and Nicolas Cage movie. It’s a Short Film Face Off and our own Glen Matthews’ film, Room Service, is up for the top prize of $40,000 in production resources.
Glen Matthews (who you may know from Hobo with a Shotgun, Haven or The Corridor) took the leap from actor to director/writer in Room Service. The short film stars fellow local actresses Vanessa Walton-Bone and Molly Dunsworth. It is up against two short films in the final round of the competition.
Featuring an unexpected conclusion to a woman confronting her husband’s mistress in a motel room, the film was shot for a mere $750, which makes the shot at a potential 40k all the sweeter. You can watch Room Service here.
“If I win Short Film Face Off, I plan to turn around and put that money back in to the local film community by shooting my next short film in Halifax. I love this community, and I love making films here. I would love to help as many people as possible A) work on a film that they're proud of, and B) put bread on their tables,” says the writer/director.
Voting for Short Film Face Off begins this Saturday at 9pm and goes until Sunday at 11:59pm. and can be done via telephone or online.
