A coffee house-style fundraiser called
Halifax to Haiti being held in the gym of the
Saint Andrew's United Church (6036 Coburg Road) on Saturday, February 6, from 7pm - 10pm. Admission is $10 at the door and there will be coffee/hot chocolate, baked goods for sale and great live music, with all proceeds going towards
Free the Children's Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. (For more information, contact Lauren at lcavanagh@live.ca.)
Buy a raffle ticket ($10/$20) for a locally-made, brightly-colored rug or scarf at the
Halifax Farmers' Market (1496 Lower Water Street), crafted by local designer
Jennifer Wylie (check out Flicker under "Haiti Raffle" for images). All the proceeds will go to
Doctors Without Borders Haiti Relief. Look for the table at the market Saturday from 7:00am-1pm, with the rugs and scarves and the signs that say "100% for Haiti" and "Raffle". This is Wylie’s third and final week offering the tickets, having raised over $1,400 so far, she’s looking to top two grand this weekend.
Taboo Nightclub (1741 Grafton Street, 423-8226) is hosting
House Music for Haiti a night of dancing and DJs February 5 from 10pm, $10 gets you in the door. The DJs will include
B-Yazz, Double A and
Cam Harding, amongst others to be announced. Director of guest services
Khephra Ahounou has approached local businesses and asked their employees to donate $10 for passes, which many have, from local lights such as
Kick Ass Shoes, City Models, Joanne David Accessories, M-Home and
Turbine. With funds going to
Oxfam, check the House Music for Haiti Facebook group for more information.
