Horses are a band from the east coast, who moved to Toronto and come back almost all the time. They have been called "beard-rock" and "man-rock," so if you haven't guessed already, they are guys. Nice guys!

Q: What is next for Horses? Are you guys doing more recording or touring?

Lachlan MacDonald (guitar, vocals): We are planning on recording a new record this year, and maybe touring Canada next summer. Things are a bit up in the air now that I am pursuing the path of the married, professional career man, but I am hoping to be able to balance the impoverished rock 'n roll life with the respectable, family man life. In my mind the other guys are waiting with bated breath for me to say I am ready to do stuff, but they may move on to other projects, and Horses may become a part time band. The future is uncertain.

Q: Are you stoked to play Halifax again? With your old tour bud BA Johnston? Is there a teary reunion in your future?

Lachlan: Our shows in Halifax are always the funnest ones, and playing with BA is always a good time. There will be tears. There will possibly also be some barf. I always, without fail, end up staying out about 3-4 hours past my bedtime. Halifax brings out the party in me. I will likely be carrying BA around town on my shoulders.

Q: Why should every single inhabitant in Halifax come to your show? what's in it for them?

Lachlan: Aside from the moderately good chance $100 will play "Night Moves" (the second best song ever—second to "Stand By Me"), and a possible guest appearance by Dan Quinn, BA will be giving $50 gift certificates to Arby's.

Q: What else do I need to know?

Lachlan: Ummm... we may have a new split 7inch with Montreal punkers Prevenge. And it's my first show as a married man. That's all I got.

Survey Asks

Do you agree with Halifax's school board cutting 152 teachers?

  • Yes, the board needs to meet its shrinking budget.
  • Only if managers and bureaucracy get a similar cut.
  • I don't care, I support the private education system.
  • No, giving young citizens the best education is too important to cut.
