Music Week nominee Myles Deck & The Fuzz have pressed a 7" called Police Cops, and those little suckers are gonna be selling like hotcakes November 29 in Hell's Kitchen with The Motorleague (Moncton) and Wrote Off (Sydney). Police Cops sounds like some sort of universally funny inside joke to me. Deck explains, "The name Police Cops was inspired from my first and only night in the drunk tank to date where some girl a few blocks down the hall from me was shrieking in a drunken slur 'Puuulllleeze Cops! Lemme go!'" says Deck. "The guards on duty that night must have tranquilized her to save their own sanity because soon there was silence and I was able to write the rest of the lyrics to the song in my head." Recorded with Joel Plaskett at his studio, Scotland Yard, the band found a musical soulmate. "Joel is an encyclopedia of music and had the equipment and experience to get the sound we were going for," says Deck. "I gave him a list of recordings to reference (including Fun House by the Stooges, Los Angeles by X and anything produced by Jimmy Miller) and told him to 'go to town.'" As with the band's last album, Beware the Fuzz, this record is being released on local label From Here To There Records. Says Deck, "Rob MacArthur (who runs the label) is a champion and deserves credit for his role in keeping the band alive through the tough times." Aside from seeing them this weekend, you can catch Myles Deck and the Fuzz this Wednesday, November 26 at Reflections with Dead Red, Dead Pinkertons and The Fat Stupids (10:30pm, $4), and watch out for a "full scale Eastern Canadian tour when the snow starts to melt."
