Mother’s is coming to the Hydrostone (5710 Young Street, the old Tanner Supply building location) this fall. With a successful Turks and Caicos location that specializes in pizza, owner Tyson Wachter thought it was time to bring its locally sourced, comfort food to Halifax.

And by local, the owners really mean local. “We are planning a rooftop garden above the restaurant in order to service our need for fresh herbs and vegetables as well to leave a smaller ecological footprint,” says Wachter.

Chef Darrick Mailman will be running the restaurant with Wachter and both are currently working on the menu.

“We want to serve the same type of food that makes you miss home. Good home cooked meals prepared with love,” says Wachter. Look out for the pizza. No stranger to the pizza business, Wachter has worked in pizzerias in Toronto, Halifax and the Caribbean, learning the tricks of the trade.

Currently in the process of emptying the building right now, Mother’s construction is planned for next month.

While you wait for the opening, you can follow Mother’s blog at www.motherspizzacanada.com or on Twitter.
