Tomavino's is closed

Longtime south end Italian eatery shuts down

Posted by Carsten Knox on Tue, Feb 14, 2012 at 5:01 PM

The Feed has learned that Tomavino's Ristorante (5173 South Street) has closed. The Italian restaurant, founded in 1989 on McCully Street in the north end, and once upon a time also had a location up in Bedford, is now at the end of its days. We'll miss their delicious pizzas and scrumptious caesar salad.

Survey Asks

Do you agree with Halifax's school board cutting 152 teachers?

  • Yes, the board needs to meet its shrinking budget.
  • Only if managers and bureaucracy get a similar cut.
  • I don't care, I support the private education system.
  • No, giving young citizens the best education is too important to cut.

I keep hoping that folks in this city (and by folks, I mean the general public, not just us smart Coast readers) will better embrace the local restaurants instead of the chains.
The food quality is better, the prices comparable and the service of a higher standard.
This isn't the first amazing local restaurant to close due to lack of business, and it won't be the last, but it's up to all of us to do our part and support the little guy, and not just when there's a Groupon deal for them.
